Botany Students, It's Time To Apply!
SABS offers awards that help students conduct research, attend classes at biological field stations, present research at the Association of Southeastern Biologists conference, and for excellence in poster and oral presentations at the conference.
Each of these awards can be given to multiple students, depending on the applications received.
Applications are now online and easier than ever. Most can be completed in under 10 minutes so don’t miss this great opportunity!

Earl Core Student Research Award
This award provides students with funding to support student-led research in plant taxonomy, systematics, or ecology.
Deadline: Feb. 21st
Amount: Up to $1,200

John E. Fairey – Biological Field Station Scholarship
The Fairey Scholarship enables undergraduate or graduate students to attend botany workshops or courses taught at biological field stations.
Deadline: March 23rd
Amount: cost of field station tuition

ASB Conference Attendance Support
SABS members sponsor students who wish to present a research paper or poster with a botanical focus at the annual Association of Southeastern Biologists & Southern Appalachian Botanical Society research conference.
Deadline: February 14
Amount: $300

Best Poster and Best Oral Presentation
These awards don’t require an application. They are given for excellence in botany-related posters and oral presentations at ASB 2020.
Students who register to attend ASB and present a poster or oral presentation will be evaluated by the SABS Student Presentations Committee members and the best presentation in each category will be awarded $300 and recognized at the banquet at the end of the conference.
Deadline: Must register for ASB and submit abstract by January 22nd
